Small classes emphasizing project-based learning, creativity and problem solving for students in grades K-12 and adults.
At MKR LAB we specialize in creating engaging project-based classes for a range of age groups and learners. The following is a sample of some of the classes we have offered. While we currently are only teaching at Workspace Education, we are available to consult and help schools, PTOs/PTAs, Scouts, libraries, homeschool groups, and community organizations structure programs.
Tinker & Experiment
Create with hands-on projects & challenges while exploring physics, electric circuits, pneumatics & more. You'll find introductory maker classes here without screen-time, plus more advanced topics. Students will get to experiment, make mistakes, trouble shoot and create their own designs and systems. Classes will foster problem solving, creative thinking, and develop basic skills that can be applied broadly.
Shift your digital experience from consumer to creator while developing relevant skills and logic. Learn in small classes with individual attention.
Robotics is a great entry to coding. Classes will be project-based using Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP and other microprocessors as our platform. Learn how to integrate motors, sensors, microphones, lights and other peripherals. Students will import, modify and write code to run peripherals and integrate their functions. Classes will use real components for full customizability, no kits.
Merge coding and circuits with textiles and accessories to create greater functionality, solve problems, or just look fabulous! These project-based courses and workshops are also wildly fun!
We offer a variety of single classes. Sample something new; join us for a specific project, an engineering challenge, or making wearables. These individual classes also are great activities for days off from school.
Build, program & fly!
We're creating curriculum for game design and exploring Minecraft modding coding in Java & Python; PyGame for the Raspberry Pi, Unity and Unreal Engine 4 for virtual reality game development, the Godot Engine, and biometric game design.
Learn how to create your own app. Explore app-building languages, such as Swift, and platforms enabling you to make your designs and the functionality you want a reality.
Learn how to create your own 3D design. The beauty of 3D printing is that you can print the exact item you need. But if you can't find a pre-made file, you have to design it first. Learn how.
Privacy & Online Security (Adults)
Individuals and small business owners will learn strategies to ensure their security online. Topics covered include VPNs, incognito browsers, cookies & ad-blocking, network sniffing, password security and more. Led by Clark Landis, co-founder and CTO of MKR LAB, whose professional experience includes building and securing web-based trading systems.
